As I'm sure some of you are aware, Ubuntu 10.04 removed HAL from the boot
process "to make it boot faster". This, as I'm sure some of you can work
out, destroyed Thunar's automounting.
HAL is now deprecated and will likely be removed from *all* distributions.process "to make it boot faster". This, as I'm sure some of you can work

In addition to Ubuntu, Debian and Fedora are in the process of removing it.
And xorg-server-1.8 onwards will be using udev instead of HAL:
